What exactly is Artistic photography?? I'm supposed to do a photo shoot and the photographer called it "artistic" "abstract" style! Could anyone explain to me, in as much detail as possible, what that is?? I'm a 14 year old! Is it a good or bad idea for me to do this photoshoot?? Is there usually nudity invoved or not??
Is it a fine line or a broad line between technically good photography and artistic photography? Is there a difference between the two, are they mutually exclusive or do they blur together and overlap? Is there a line at all ? I tend to think that there is no line, that artistic photography can be technically good and vice versa, but what about when an artistic photograph is in theory technically bad, yet it works as a piece of art ? Is it a good photograph ? I'd like to hear what others think, my mind is open, I'm a painter who knows little about photographic technology, but I have a definite interest. I'd just like to mention that I am not responsible for any thumbs down happening here. I like all the answers.
What can I use for a pure white background in photography? I do artistic photography and I want to take photos of objects (still life) with the pure white or smoked white seamless backgrounds. I have tried different types of cloth but I always get hint of texture no matter the dof. I have tried making a photo box for this but the corner seams are always visible. I have a great lighting setup. I have seen photos like this. One that comes to mind is a photo I saw of an egg with a white seamless background. The egg was in the lower left quadrant and it was that simple. The contrast and detail of the white egg shell against a pure white backdrop were stunning. The photo had no Photoshop or retouching of any kind. The egg was sitting on something, but you couldn't tell. You couldn't even see a difference between the background and the surface where the egg was resting on. Any suggestions how to make a box like this and what materials to use, is greatly apprecated. Thank you.

But I do not want to do comercial types like fashion, wedding, portriats, etc. I am interested in sporting photography, (ie. snowmobiling, skateboarding etc.) scenery photography, and artistic photography. Any ideas on what these types of photoghraphy are called so I am able to look up more information on it would be very helpful! Everything I have been finding is for comercial types of photography. Thank you for ANY information you can supply!

I'm good at artistic stuff like art, music, writing (specifically photography, piano, singing etc) and I know it's difficult to make a living in something like that. I need some suggestions.
Why Do So Many People Love Photography? I've always asked myself this. Why do so many people love photography, even though they have no artistic quality. No offense to anyone. Just thinking about it.

Does anyone have opinion about Stare Photography Online Courses? My wife has a very artistic eye, she can really take good pictures, but she does not understand all of the photography lingo. She plans on taking a night class at our local JC when finances and time permit. But until then she needs to come to speed on a lot of the specific terminology. We were thinking of an inexpensive solution for the time being. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I want to go to school for photography? I would love to go to school for photography and I think it is realistic to say that I have somewhat of a gift in photography. The problem is, I am generally not artistic. I can not draw, paint, or sculpt. The only visual art I am somewhat skilled in is photography. Do they have universities that teach that sort of thing without me having to take classes for other visual arts?
Does considering photography an art belittle the importance of life-like painting as an art? I read about the topic in a magazine called "Smart Photography" (in India) where the writer ridiculed the argument made by a few painter folk that photography in itself is an "un-artistic art" because it uses modern technology (camera, image manipulation software etc.) to illustrate the artist's creativity saying that brush, paint ans canvas etc. are external (modern scientific) aids too. I see this as an endless debate. Your views are welcome. Is painting a "higher" form of art than photography? Boohoohooooo...!! Typo. It is "and". Not "ans". In the line- "...illustrate the artist's creativity saying that brush, paint AND canvas etc..."
If I wanted to take up photography as a hobby, what would you recommend - serious answers please? I'm not exactly the artistic type and I don't have any expensive photographic equipment. However, I've been thinking about getting into photography as a hobby - using a digital camera, not film. I currently have a 5.0 MP camera with a 3x optical zoom. I've played around a bit with the various features and learned how to take decent pictures in various conditions. And I do have a decent tripod. I guess one of my main questions is whether I should immediately try to buy a digital SLR camera or if the one I have would be adequate to start. And once I am taking pictures, are there specific subjects or concepts I should focus on. Or is it more just getting out there and taking pictures?
I want to learn the basics of photography? I have a Sony DSC-S600 and I really have a passion for Photography. But I dont want the complex photographic skills or something. But uhm, you know, when we have a field trip or something, I want to make pictures, specifically pictures of some places, that are like artistic. I want it to be attractice, artistic or something like that, any techniques?? thanks.
I have a 35mm film camera, a tripod and the desire to do take pictures for a living. How do I get started? My camera is a Canon EOS 650 and I have a 35mm-80mm lens. I like to take scenic pictures mostly, but in the last few years I have gotten into portraits and I have shot three weddings. I really want to do this as a career, but I have severely limited funds to get a business started...not that I even know how to do that. I also am very interested in artistic photography and maybe even tasteful nudes. Is there anyone that can help me?

I am a photo major needing help with assignment? This project is based on: Process – a systematic series of actions directed to some end; a continuous action, taking place in a definite manner. Semiotics – the study of signs and symbols as elements of communication. The signifier, or the object/image, leads to the signified, which is the associated meaning. For this project, consider how you gather your source materials, whether they are actively sought out, deliberately chosen, found, or happen by chance. You may use ANY material (within reason), incorporation of other artistic mediums, documentation of an action, use of participants, etc. The process may also be a springboard for the imagery that you gather. How would you tackle this project as a photography ma Then, create a complete composition in Photoshop, using the idea of semiotics to communicate your interpretation of your theme. Consider the relationships that are created by the imagery used, the various types of interpretation, and how different viewers may read the image

What is a good camera for taking high resolution artistic photographs? I'm a graphics designer, and I'm tired of using photos that belong to other people. My dad told me he would get me a camera for Christmas, but he doesn't know which one to get me. I'd love to take pictures that I could use to make backgrounds, banners, etc. from. How much is the best price to charge for photography services? I am pretty much an intermediate photographer and just getting into digital photograhpy, but have used a film camera for years. Right now I do portraits for free and only ask that my models give my name out. How much should I charge when I do start to charge? Should I charge per session or per style, like nudes would be more than casual and kid portraits more than anything? I offer: 250+ pics in a session i can do practically any setting or style, like artistic, casual, portrait, erotic/nude, etc, just nothing too dirty! I burn a CD of the original untouched pics and send via snail mail a remastered CD and select remastered prints. I also have the ability to make poster size prints.
Is the Nikon D3 good for basic photography or just sports? I'm shooting with a D80 right now and I understand the leap that is the D3. However, I want to shoot full-frame images and this is really my only option. I've been told by some photographers that the D3 is just a sports camera and will be useless for studio /outdoor artistic shots. What do you guys say?
