What Portable Printer do you use for event photography? I'm getting in to event photography. I'm also doing pet photography. So far the pet photography people trust me to pay me and then get the photos later. However, I want to change this style a bit. I want people to get their photos at the time of the session. Even if it's only a 4x6 until they get the enlargements in the mail, etc. If you conduct event photography and print on site, what do you use and how did you choose what you have? What about power / battery options? And most important.. cost of the friggin inks and paper? P.S. I have a Digital camera (nikon D40).. I also have a laptop, but don't intend to utilize it on site, but I imagine will probably end up doing so. My first thought, is digital camera and 4x6 compact printer.

What is a good company name for Photography/Graphic Design/Event Planning Company? I am starting a small company that will include: *Photography (Mostly outside in natural light - portraits, engagement, maternity, family, children) *Graphic Design (flyers, invitations, favors, Christmas Cards, business cards, ...) * Event Planning (Showers - baby and bridal, birthday, engagement parties) I am very involved in my church and love Jesus with all my heart. I have been thinking about a company name since July this year. I came up with J29:Eleven Designs. (Favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11) This reminds people of 9/11. I don't want a company name that reminds people of a ver sad day in American History. I have an excel spreadsheet that is filled with ideas. Can you help? I really didn't want to have the name too long but because it encompass so much stuff I should include Photography and Graphic Design. You think? I love these: Pixel Shutter Blissful Brilliance Milestone "Picture is worth a 1000 words" Cali for California Curly
Family Day event photography theme? I am working on a photography theme for our church Family Day. We are giving out disposable cameras and they theme will be on the invites and promo material. I need a really cool title though....I need suggestions. I was thinking "Picture Day" but that's a little too lame.
D40 lens Pet / Senior Portrait and Event Photography? I am wanting to purchase an AF lens for my D40.. it came with an 18-55. But the 55 only blurs out background if you're on the 55 and focusing about 2 feet from the freaking subject. My next best bet is 50-150 2.8 After that, a sigma 70-200 ex. But the 70 seems like it's too much.. may have to back off the subject? or is this just what i need? I tried the 70-200 in the store and focus was amazingly fast and crisp. What are my other options? My question is 50-150 2.8 or 70-200 2.8 a better option for pet photography / portraits and general events. What would your next lens be after the kit 18-55 lens? (2.8-5) My main concern is the 2.8 part (both to be able to blur out back and for low light) I use my camera in manual most of the time. I hate aperature priority and/or shutter priority. It's still auto and does it's own thing and the photos usually come out a bit wacked. If I had bracket ability, I'd probably stick with auto?? But the D40 doesn't have the auto bracket crud. People ask how I get such vivid photos and I think this is why. Anyway, the 2.8-5.6 is what is driving me crazy with the 18-55, but the lens is very sharp and pulls in beautiful colors. I think I should live with it and get the 50-150, but then again - is the 50-150 2.8 really necessary? I say yes.. but this is what I'm on here for... asking away. The Nikkor is super spendy for the motor in the lense and 2.8.. this is why I'm leaning towards Sigma., but comments on sticking with Nikkor are definitely soaking in :)

help! my sister and I need a name for our photography business!? We are passionate about everything photography, and therefore will shoot anything brought before us. Weddings, events, portraits, families, children, product, business, studio, location, etc....we'll do it all. We don't want anything cheesy like "timeless moments" or anything like that....it has to be quirky and easy to remember. I had picked out "photopia" because is conveys our versatility and our encompassing all things photo.....but sadly, it is taken many many times, and we prefer to be unique, fresh, and new..... any and all suggestions welcome ;) thanks, beth (my sister's name is jade)
How can i start to persue photography as a career? O.K, so I'm only 15, but I like photography and would like to peruse it as a career someday. I have a decent digital camera, It's a 5mp camera with a 4x optical zoom and a pretty decent lens. It's just a point a shoot, but I didn't have $700 to spend on an slr. I've read a book that taught me about aperture and iso and stuff. Anyway, can photography be a potential career? What could I do, if it made decent money I would like shooting weddings and events and stuff (I like candid photography best) but am willing to explore other options. Know, since I'm only 15 I know I wont be making any money for awhile but what can I do now to prepare for later? I mean like practising my photography. Oh yeah, I am decent at editing my photos and have Paint Shop Pro. So, yeah, what can I do know and what should I do later? P.S You don't have to tell me that your not going to be able to do photography full time starting out, I know that photography would have to be a side job.

How would I go about getting a photography job photographing bands...? Say like for big music magizine companys. Do they hire their own photographers to travel to certain concerts and photograph for their magazine or event companies who set up the No Fear tours and Jagermister tours....do they have their own photographers. I've been playing with the idea of doing that sort of thing for my career because of my love for rock and metal music and my love for photography. So I'm just wondering how to get started. I'm trying to get started on more local bands and all to get the experience, to get better. I know alot about camera. I have my film Nikon SLR and recently bought a Digi Nikon SLR. I do some local band photography. Portraits and nature shots. I'll eventually take some more photography classes to focus on studio lighting and all. But the only schools around my area with photography degrees are one that costs 20K a year and the other is about 75 miles South of where I work.

I am new to the advanced photography world, and I just purchased Canon Rebel XT because it seems to be a great entry level camera with good features. How much do I charge for Photography? I am starting a photography business and was wondering what the going rates were. For major events, weddings, etc. Do you add the cost of photos into your fee or is labor separate? Any advice would be great! Thanks
What kind of camera should I buy if I want to get into photography? I was looking to get into photography. Partly because I'm really interested in it.. and partly because I wouldn't mind turning it into a side business. Headshots and weddings maybe.. but primarily events/concerts to compliment reviews I write and whatnot. Any suggestions on what camera to buy? Also any sites that have deals? Film to use.. where to develop.. tell me everything! :)
Would you hire a budding photographer for your low-key event? I am learning photography, I am not great but I don't stink either. I own a professional DSLR camera. I was considering offering my services locally for things like sporting events, kids birthday parties, family reuninons etc. Again, I am NOT great, but I am getting better and I am getting decent shots, I just have a lot to learn. I would charge a small fee, maybe 20.00 or 25.00 an hour and I would just give the client their photos all on disc, they would have the rights to them to print as they see fit. I would retain rights to use some photos for my portfolio (but I would get a release signed for them) I could also do things like photographing items people want to sell, property photos etc. Would you ever use a service like this knowing that I am still learning? Its not very expensive, you get lots of inexpensive photos and I get experience. Would you ever use this type of service? Why or why not? I am not ready for big special events like weddings, but I can handle smaller low-key events. 1. Using photos you have taken on someones "dime" in your portfolio is standard practice. 2. Calling me a "wanna be" simply for choosing a hands-on approach to learning is pretty brazen and rude. The question was not "what names would you call me?" the question was weather or not you would hire someone like me for a small event like a birthday party. Everyone starts somewhere. I am a MOM, dropping my family is not an option. Anything I do must be done around my family, This a photo blog I have been working on, it also links to my photos taken during the Angora fire. This blog is about 1/2 snapshots and 1/2 my "work" This blog is NOT a portfolio and I KNOW some of the shots are simply snapshots, the idea of the blog was to get a photo up each day, not be a professional. But there is some good stuff on there, take a peek. http://dragonsproject365.blogspot.com/
What kind of business or job can be done with photography? I'm looking to do freelance photography or a job where I take pictures like events, or ppl in their cultures...what's a good money maker...
I want to start a photography business...? I want to start a photography/videography with my mother in law. What are some good sites to look at for software and equipment? And any advice on events we should do besides weddings? How much should we charge?
How should I start a portfolio? I am starting a small event photography and videography company doing weddings, bar-mitzvahs, etc. How should I get a portfolio started before I have any gigs?
How to trade photography servce for website help...or something...? Hi! My question is this: I am starting out as a professional photographer (Read: does great work, but has no money), and I would like to get my very own website up and running. Unfortuanatly, I don't want the headache of doing it myself. I'm looking for a site where I can find someone (someONE, not a huge company out of state that is generic and expensive, and/or a scam...I'd like a real, existing person.) who is willing to help with the first steps of setup and teach me how to do self matienence from there. I'd like to trade my services (Portraits, events, photomanip/retouch, stock photos) to pay for, or at least reduce the cost of, this. Basicly, I'm lookng for a site so that local people can meet and trade services. Like Freecycle or Cheapcycle, but with services. Any help guys? ...and please, don't spam me with offers of web site building <em>unless</em> you fit the description I put above. I can tell when people don't really read the whole question. -_- Thanks! :)
Photography final project, I need music that has to do with traveling, can you help? For my photography final, we're supposed to do a photo story compilation with 30 pictures of an event that took place in our lives this year. I am doing my trip to Europe. I have pictures to include from the plane, airports, Madrid, Spain and Paris, France... can you think of any songs, any genre at all that have to do with travel? I'm just looking for a general idea, we have to set the project to music, and I actually need a bunch of songs because of copyright law our teacher will only let us use 10% of any song... so on an average song thats like a 30 second clip.
Would you trust a non-professional photographer for your wedding? I am not a professonal photographer by any means, however, I am always asked by family and friends to not only take their personal photographs but to do their wedding and event photography. They all say that I have a special talent and I Should have been a photographer and not a nurse. I do take some fantastic photos and have been thinking about offering my services for a fee. I have samples to show and would be upfront about being an ametuer. Would you trust your precious wedding pics to someone like me?
Should I make a bussiness card for my photography? I am working on doing Sports Photography and I plan on going to public parks and sporting events to practice. I was thinking that it may be in my favor to have a simple bussiness card with my name, phone and E-mail address just to hand out to someone if they ask to see the photo's that I had taken...? Do you think this is a good idea to get my name out?

Um...technical...photography...stuff....need help...just beginning.....? I'm just starting to take on photography, and I still have a lot of questions.... How do you get that look in a photo where the backround looks blurred and the main subject is in focus, creating an appealing contrast? What's the best way to get that shot? Are close-up shots of, like, eagles swooping down and catching fish one in a million or just the product of high zoom? What's the difference between those stylish, modern-looking metalic grey digital cameras that are 1/2 inches thick and big, bulky cameras with lenses that shoot out 5 inches? I've been too sport gatherings and seen big events, and the professional photographers seem to have those plain, bulky looking cameras with tons of buttons. Are they better? Also, if I don't have $20,000 to buy really good and professional equipment, how can I start a career, or for that matter, catch really good photos? My digital camera just seems to capture plain, average photos, even when I can see a better picture in my head
I need help with some pricing? I have been doing photography for years but mainly events for family or friends but i hve been getting other "customers" people have just been calling me up and asking me to shoot for their senior pictures or for their weddings. My problem is that for friends and family I have done it for free like as a gift to the person so what shoudl I charge other people? I need like an approx. pricing list since I dont really have a studio or anything I just kinda do it in my living room or on location. I dont have like a protfolio or a years and years of professional experience what can i charge?
Where is a good location to get some street photography? Street photography = taking candid photos of people on the street and/or public places. ie. huge markets / fairs / public events? IN SAN FRANCISCO.....? People, the question was asked in the San Francisco group...I know LA is a hot spot, but I'm not going there. :)
What would be a good lens to use in a low light situation for sports photography? I’m taking pictures of volleyball & basketball inside gyms and indoor Horsing events like English ridding. I have a Canon D30 digital body and am looking for a good lens to add to my arsenal. Thanks for any help given.
