is sports photography a good career choice???
i am thinking of whether or not to take a course in sports photography and am wondering if anyone could give me any information about whether they think this is a good choice. Is it enjoyable? What is the pay like? Working hours? etc

- learn to be a photog first. then if you want to specialize in an area like sports then do it. photogs are usually self employed so the pay depends on how many pics you sell, who you sell them to and the value others place on them. like any other career it what you make of it.
- Well, you will first have to take the course and see what you think. Having some experience in each field of photography will give you the data you need to make your eventual choice of career. That said, I started out as a forensic/medical/scientific photographer ... Now I shoot editorial, sports, fashion and glamour. Things change so what is most important is to have all the skills needed to control the camera under "any" conditions. If you do get into sports, unless you work as a staffer, you will be expected to have the all your equipment ... about $30,000 in bodies and lenses. If you don't mind the travel and 12 to 16 hour days, you should enjoy it. Depending upon the venues and your clients, you can make enough to support a family, update your cameras as the technology grows ($5,000 to $8,000 each)
- It sounds like you have to work really hard to get a modest salary. The hours are long. The equipment is expensive. But you'd be doing something really enjoyable: http://www.salary.com/careers/layouthtmls/crel_display_Cat10_Ser189_Par288.html However, there are all sorts of places that would hire a sports photographer.
