Need ideas on marketing my photography business?

I need some fresh ideas on marketing my photography business and obtaining new clients. Any one with experience in obtaining HS Senior pictures, schools pictures, event photography etc please share ideas. Anyone who has ideas on marketing this also please share!

  1. First you can try istockphoto to gain exposure. They pay you a percentage of the fees from the sales of the photo. That way, if people like it, they can request more of it.
  2. Create a website if you haven't already done so. Use Microsoft Office templates to make professional brochures and business cards and hand deliver them to the appropriate person your looking to entice. Mail out any others. Use email to get your message across. Most schools have emails that are read daily. Have a portfolio available to show to potential customers. Join your local Chamber of Commerce! It's a great way to get exposure. And always always be nice and professional. It's a start. Good Luck!
  3. Join the PPA (Professional Photographers of America), and your local Photographers Guild. The contacts you will make and the help you will get is great. Photographers are generally unwilling to share there experiences in the business however in my experience, members want everyone to succeed and are happy to share there knowledge. Most larger Guilds also have regular speakers (top photographers and marketing specialist etc.). It was the best move I ever made regarding my studio.
