Photography. Suggest some ways of achieving unobtrusive photographs at an out door event?
Public Comments
- 135mm lens good for upto 50 or 60 feet.. allows DOF seperation... and Dont use a flash, use faster film.
- Use a camera with a good optical zoom so you can frame the shots u want without asking people to pose or interupt the group.
- The taking of pictures of young children by stealth is an offence.
- A very wide angle lens will allow shots to be taken from waist level without worrying too much about framing or depth of field. Additional note: taking pictures of children is not an offence. In Britain, it is lawful to photograph anything that is visible from a public place. Taking pictures of children may only be an offence if they are obscene. However, the mere taking of photographs, even by stealth, is not unlawful. The owner of the premises you may be on can decline permission for photography, however, this is a matter of civil law, not criminal law, and even taking photographs on private property is not a criminal offence.
- Immerse yourself in the event. Once people get used to you, they won't care about the camera.
- Actually at events, a roving photographer with a big camera and flash is usually what the promoter wants. There are very few people who do NOT want their photos taken ... events are about seeing and being seen. They are really social/political events and having some "proof" they were there is always a plus. Don't worry about being seen ... obtrusive is more of an attitude than a style
- as a photographer you should avoid the trap of trying to be unobtrusive, you are a participant in the event, in fact your presence is vital! you must be prepared to stand your ground and take your pics and by your behaviour not offend people, respecting anyone who asks you not to picture them, after all as a photographer why would you seek to hide what is a legitimate occupation ?
