  1. The wedding industry is a racket. Save your money and don't let the photographer talk you into getting all vain and going overboard with a ton of pictures as if you were the only beautiful woman ever to get married
  2. Call your competition and see what they charge and adjust accordingly. Offer a couple different options that your competitors don't and offer first-time specials.
  3. If you don't have much experience then don't charge a thing. Use it as a learning experience... when you have more experience, make yourself a portfolio then start charging. Really great wedding photographers make thousands of dollars per wedding.
  4. Unless you are experienced shooting weddings, don't risk shooting a "first" one. If you want a career as a wedding photographer, work as an assistant for a wedding photographer for at least a year and learn all the special skills unique to wedding photography and learn the business. The $3,000 to $5,000 the photographer charges for the shoot is just to show up and cover the wedding. The sales of prints afterward is where the additional money is made to cover the costs of new cameras every three to four years and providing his/her family with a home, college tuition, health and life insurance and still have some money to put away for retirement. IF you have the skills, right equipment and know what is expected by the mother of the bride, then charge $2,000 to show up, provide them with a very low resolution CD so they can choose the images the want printed and then bill them for the prints (using the established pricing for prints in your market area)
  5. What I would do would be to sit down with the couple you are going to be photographing ask them what they would like to see from thier photos. I would then go back home sit down and write out everything (poses) as for prices you need to think about how you would be developing them and the work you will do to the pictures and such then go from there with the prices. Make sure you keep them reasonable though other wise you will not get the job!
  6. fhotoace is right hands down.
